Quake update

For anyone who is on the site right now checking out the news or multimedia, here's the latest on the earthquake that has struck Chino Hills.

Now, if this happened on a Saturday, I wondered if any tournaments would have ended? Probably one or two out of the five or six that take place.

Birmingham is your champions

Written by Glenn // 7/28/2008 08:23:00 PM
They got the two (my fault on the error) rounds to capture the championship.

The clincher seemed like it was going San Francisco's way. Then, three Optx players were taken out, leaving just one remaining against two Birmingham players.

The game ended there, usually, they'll keep playing it out all the way

Hmm... I have no idea who the MVPs will be, probably the CS team.

Be back in a few!

Big time win by Messy!

After Messy trailed 2-0, it looked like everyone's prediction of a NinjaCW beatdown was coming true.

Messy responded by winning five of the final six rounds, including a virtual steal in Round 7. That is beyond epic.

With the 6-3 first-half in Counter-Strike by Birmingham, it's 20-14 for the Europeans.

So, for those wondering ...

* -- There's nine rounds remaining.

* -- Birmingham needs 3 rounds to win the championship.

* -- San Francisco needs 7 rounds to win the championship.

Hold on tight. This is either going to end quick or be a fight to the finish.

Vanessa wins, 5-2

See? I was wrong.

Vanessa came out ON FIRE, going ahead 3-0.

And I bet she'll say it should have been 5-0.

In the fourth round, she had a comfortable lead and SarahLou rallied with just 10 percent remaining. SarahLou seemed to say F it and I'll win with Kasumi's speed.

SarahLou had a big lead in Round 5, and I started jotting down the victory for her, but I look up, and Vanessa is putting the finishing touches on that round. Wow, an exciting contest.

Next up is the 2-for-2, the first half of Counter-Strike and the Dead or Alive 4 male contest.

Scoreboard correction

If you're following on the scoreboard, there's a slight change. The next match is Dead or Alive 4 female, not male.

Bazza holds on

Stermy had two great opportunities to get the tie in the final seconds.

1. The first one was stopped by a defender prior to Stermy getting the shot off. And never before had I heard the crowd give a collective aww.

2. Stermy had a 2-on-2, and I totally believe had the ball handler kept it and shot it, that would have been a better opportunity than passing it off to the trailer. Bazza got the ball and sent it out. GG

Next up is Dead or Alive 4 female. I think a lot of people predicted Birmingham to get the first two games, and San Francisco to capture the Dead or Alive 4 contest big time. I'm not sold on Dead or Alive 4 being a total runaway for San Francisco; I've said that Vanessa will win 5-4 barely. Then again, I've been horribly wrong in previous predictions.

Massive goal by Stermy

He nailed a breakaway shot just before halftime to cut his game to 2-1. He gave up two early goals, and it was looking like it was going to be a repeat of last week's battle, where he surrendered three in the first half.

Momentum is to Stermy. Can he keep it? We're in the second half.

Forza to Birmingham

I had a feeling Birmingham would get this one. Aside from the beginning, where the players came together like a sandwich, it was pretty much a clean race.

I was waiting for when Sackamonjaro would make his move, but he was too far back to catch DaveySkills, who was in the lead from the beginning.

5-2 for Birmingham, a good start for the Europeans.

Time zones

We're about two minutes from start.

I think someone overseas was saying that they get to see the match live ... at 3 a.m. Get the caffeinated drinks.

It's go time!

Before the match

Today definitely feels different than the other Championship Gaming Series days so far. This is the title match.

I'll put in basic terms, one team plays another, winner gets $500,000. It's that simple. The biggest money match this year so far.

I have not seen a San Francisco Optx player yet, but I've seen about 20 people wearing Optx jerseys and T-shirts.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham Salvo players were huddled together just a few minutes ago getting hyped up for the contest.

Last year, I said that I didn't think all of the fans in the arena understood the importance of the world championship match. My hope is that things will be much different tonight. It should be.

I'm pumped up for the contest, and a lot of the people I talked to have similar feelings.

Here's the game order:

Forza Motorsport 2
FIFA 08
Dead or Alive 4 female
Dead or Alive 4 male
Counter-Strike Source (to begin after DOA4 female)

The Counter-Strike map is de_inferno. I don't know what the Forza track is.

I'll be back after the FIFA 08 contest.
