C.P.L planning for two major events

The Cyberathlete Professional League announced its plans Thursday to conduct two major competitions in 2009.

The announcement was made on the league's amateur division Web site.

One of the competitions will be held in the United States, while another will be held somewhere else in the world, the league said. The U.S. location was not revealed.

The league said it will reveal more information about the two tournaments before the end of the year.

C.P.L officials also said they're making attempts to acquire sponsors and sent out an open invitation to companies to join the league. It will also fill out executive positions.

The league closed its doors in March after what many people consider was a bevy of bad moves by the league. Many players focused their venom toward founder Angel Munoz.

An unknown group based in the United Arab Emirates then acquired the rights to the league in late August, then said they were moving operations to the Middle East.

The C.P.L had been around since 1997 and helped lay the foundation for video game tournaments and leagues. But they were soon passed over by other organizations and corporations.
