Walsh no longer a member of Final Boss
One of the most successful "Halo" players in the nation is now without a team.
Michigan native David Walsh is no longer a member of Final Boss, the team reported Wednesday night.
The announcement was made on the Major League Gaming Web site. Commissioner John Nelson confirmed the move. Fans had talked about possible change with the successful group.
In mentioning the departure, M.L.G made note of the Michigan native's success with the team and how he gained so much success with twins Tom and Dan Ryan. Those three were the original members of the franchise going into the 2008 season.
Soon after the announcement, M.L.G's Web site was flooded with comments from fans and Final Boss followers, wondering if this was the right move. Many fans headed over to Walsh's MySpace page and left comments of support.
Some fans left messages for Walsh asking him if a rumor was correct that he was headed to Instinct, while others congratulated him for the move to the new group as if it was a done deal. In Wednesday night's announcement, Nelson warned that no move is final until approved by the league.
Walsh has been synonymous with Final Boss and M.L.G, as he helped the team win three national championships in the "Halo" series, the last one coming in 2007 for "Halo 2."
Final Boss also won national titles in 2004 (Halo:CE) and 2005 (Halo 2). They reached the championship match in 2006, losing to Carbon.
The team won the 2008 season opener in Secaucus, N.J., but haven't tasted first since. Walsh has been a part of all 20 regional and national championship tournaments won by Final Boss.
Walsh is a candidate for two eSports Player of the Year awards. He's been nominated for Best Halo 3 Player and also Console Player of the Year.
His departure means that two of the five candidates for Best Halo 3 player are no longer on their 2007 teams. Scott "Ghandi" Lussier was let go by Carbon a week before M.L.G's Orlando Regional.
