The Dallas Venom all but secured the No. 2 seed in the Championship Gaming Series playoffs with a 24-17 victory over the defending champion Chicago Chimera on Sunday afternoon. At the C.G.S offices in Marina Del Rey, Dallas picked up a big 13-5 decision in the "Counter-Strike Source" duel to all but seal the win.
But that might have paled in comparison to Dallas' "Dead or Alive 4" player Emmanuel "Master" Rodriguez remaining undefeated on the season. He improved to 11-0 with a 5-2 win over Jeremy Florence.
Rodriguez is the last undefeated player in the league. To cap off the flawless regular season, he'll have to defeat last year's top player, Carolina's Ryan Ward, Monday night in the season finale for both teams.
The Texan is putting up an MVP-like performance in what many believe is the toughest of the five divisions in the C.G.S. He's had just one shutout, but he's only given up more than two rounds to an opponent once this season.
Sunday was his sixth consecutive 5-2 decision.
Rodriguez will try to become the second person to go the length of the season with a zero in the loss column. Last year, San Francisco's Vanessa Arteaga went 12-0.
As for the Chicago Chimera, their hopes of defending their title might have just about evaporated. They need help in the form of two Carolina Core losses and a win of their own in Monday's season finale just to have a chance. But even that might not be enough.
