On the eve of playing its last Championship Gaming Series match of the season, Los Angeles compLexity General Manager Jason Lake announced on his Web site that his "Counter-Strike" team will play in version 1.6 events.

Lake (pictured, far left) said his team plans to participate in the World Cyber Games online qualifying tournament, as well as the CEVO online tournament.

However, the team won't make the full transition back; it will still play in "Counter-Strike Source" competitions.

"First and foremost, we'd like to let the coL Community know that we are doing this for FUN and have no false illusions of domination in 1.6 after not touching the game for 1.5 years," Lake said on the Complexity Gaming Web site. "Our players love and respect 1.6, and want to play it as often as possible, but our professional careers dictate that we focus more on CS:Source. Thus, look forward to some good old fashion coL.cs 1.6 action, but please understand we are playing for fun and it'd be foolish to expect to see the coL.cs magic from 2004-2006."

Lake's announcement was met with cheers from coL fans.

The Championship Gaming Series uses "Counter-Strike Source" as its game. In the past year, there has been debate as to whether the league should allow players to compete in version 1.6 competitions, as it is the more used game of the two.

C.G.S players must ask for permission to compete in certain tournaments, this includes "Counter-Strike 1.6." In the winter, the league announced its plans for an online league featuring version 1.6.

Los Angeles was the top team Source team in the C.G.S last season, finishing 10-2 and winning the World Final team tournament. They also claimed the Newegg LANFest 2K7 in Ontario (Inland Empire), as well as several other premiere events in the past 18 months.

CompLexity is 5-6 this season in the C.G.S, and will play its season finale tonight against 3D New York.
