Birmingham wins C.G.S European Championship
The Birmingham Salvo claimed the Championship Gaming Series' European title on Saturday in Santa Monica, defeating the Berlin Allianz, 22-21 in overtime.
Berlin did just enough in the final contest of the night, "Forza Motorsport 2," to force a one-lap overtime.
But the result in the one-lap race was the same as the three-lap race; David Kelly took first place, giving Birmingham the victory.
The Salvo took home the championship despite winning just two of the five contests. One of those wins was in "Counter-Strike Source," in which they prevailed over Berlin, 12-6.
Berlin's Rostyslav "Manya" Nedoviz defeated Birmingham's Michael Barrett, 2-0 in a "FIFA 08" contest. Nedoviz continued his hot run, a day after stunning London's elite FIFA player Chris Bullard.
In the third-place contest, the London Mint beat the Stockholm Magnetik, 27-17, securing a spot in the World Final team tournament, scheduled to take place later this summer.
